Tea and Weight Loss - Can You Believe the Hype?

Tea and Weight Loss is quite a phenomena in dieting and slimming worlds. In particular, a lot of focus has been on the weight loss properties of Green Tea and Oolong Tea. So what is the evidence on the power of these Teas and is Tea and Weight Loss a legitimate claim to make.

The Chinese have known about the health benefits of green tea for thousands of years, and now scientific research has revealed some of the science behind these claims. In order to understand how Green Teas and Oolong tea can be effective in weight management, it is worth understanding the basic principles of dieting.

At the very basic level dieting is about calories in and calories out. Ideally one wants a higher metabolism (i.e the rate at which our body burns of fact, and to reduce the calories coming in. We all understand that a successful diet is about exercise and eating healthily.

How Does Green Tea help all this?

Green Tea has caffeine which helps burn calories, but so does coffee. But the beauty of Green or Oolong Tea is that there is another natural chemical compound such as polyphenol, which help limit the negative effects of a fatty diet, and help the body target fat burning. Research found dramatic increase in metabolism rates, with participants in one research burning off an additional 67 calories per day when drinking Oolong Tea. In addition fat burning increased by 12% over just plain caffeinated water.

At the end of the day - if you swap your diet from a daily latte to a cup of green tea, then already you are reducing the calories, and boosting your body's metabolism. This in itself can have a double-whammy effect when it comes to shedding the pounds. Also, drinking tea in the afternoon can help banish those cravings and deal with that afternoon energy slump. If you factor in the notion that you have decided to do something about weight management by swapping to a diet tea, and are therefore focusing and watch what you eat and what exercise you take, this in itself will help with your slimming intentions.

Another thing worth considering is that Oolong Tea, and various teas that contain Oolong have added health benefits such as reducing your cholesterol, hypertension, cancer prevention, liver damage and a lot more, thanks to its various anti-oxidants and compounds.

Plenty of celebs swear by various Green teas for their weight management, from Oprah Winfrey, Victoria Beckham, Sofie Dahl.

So is Green Tea a magic bullet when it comes the dieting? There is no diet panacea, BUT it is clear that drinking a Green Tea or Green Diet tea can seriously help and speed up the process of dieting and weight loss, when combined with a general all round weight loss approach. As with all marketing you need to beware the hype. Are you gonna go from a size 16 to size 2 overnight - of course not. However, there is clear evidence that Oolong Tea and Cho Yung tea really fast-track your diet plan, and unlike a lot of other diet drinks they are actually healthy for you

There a lots of free trials for these teas- so you have nothing to lose if you want to give it a go. Tea and Weight loss is a legitimate claim, albeit, as with all marketing claims, one needs to read between the hype.
