Junk Food and Weight Loss Does Not Mix

Obesity is an out of the ordinary increase of body fat, usually 20 percent or more over a person's idyllic body weight. Obesity gives rise to illness, disability, and death. Much anxiety has been expressed about the growing rate of obesity worldwide. The World Health Organization terms obesity a worldwide epidemic and the diseases that can occur due to obesity are becoming more and more widespread.

Too much weight can result in many serious, potentially life-threatening health problems, including hypertension, Type II diabetes mellitus increased risk for coronary disease, and infertility. The cause of obesity continue to be talked and studied and although it has long agreed that obesity is a result of too little exercise and too much eating new research suggests there may be some hereditary influence with genetic tendency for obesity to the mothers weight. Researchers are for the most part disturbed about the rising amount of children and young people who are obese in the US and Europe

In the western culture, being slim is the prize, which most women want. In the past being fat meant affluence and social admiration. Later on, a new ethos emerged where slenderness was the sigh a beauty and health. There were many social stigmas attached to being fat such as laziness and gluttony, which persists today.

Yet for many African Americans and Hispanics, as well as other ethnic groups, a larger body still holds positive social value. There are a number of treatments associated with losing weight. The most tried and true method remains decreasing the caloric intake and increasing energy output. Exercise burns fat stores and increases the metabolic rate for up to 15 hours after.

Keeping away from junk food is an absolute must when you are trying to lose weight. Fast foods such as Pasta, burgers, pizzas, fish and chips, crisps, and sweets have all at some time been classified as junk foods. There is no doubt, however, that it would be extremely difficult to design a balanced diet based exclusively on junk food since most have a high fat and salt content.
